The 10th Mostra Igualada Theatre Review Contest for children (primary school) and youth (secondary school and high school), co-organized with the critics’ association Recomana, now has its winners. The first prize in the children’s category was awarded to Albert Barquilla, 11 years old and a resident of Igualada, for his review of the show Embolic by the company Pau Palaus. In the youth category, the first prize went to Biel Paino, 12 years old and a resident of Vilanova del Camí, for his text on the show Matres by Campi Qui Pugui.

In the children’s category, second place went to Arlet Ruiz, 9 years old and from Igualada, for her review of Copiar, a show by Animal Religion. Third prize in this category was awarded to Berta Paino, 7 years old and from Vilanova del Camí, for her review of the show Forat by Dudu Arnalot. In the youth category, second place went to Dania Hafiane, 15 years old, recognized for her review of the show Museu del Temps by José Antonio Portillo & Unnica Arts. The third youth prize was not awarded.

The prizes consist of a diploma and gift vouchers worth 100, 50, and 25 euros, depending on the ranking, generously provided by the Igualada bookstores Bureau Vallée, Cal Rabell, and Llegim…? Llibreria, respectively. Winners also received a Recomana water bottle and a tote bag from the latest edition of the Mostra.

This year’s jury was made up of Recomana critics Jordi Bordes, Martí Rossell, and Núria Cañamares. The winning reviews can be read on the Mostra Igualada and Recomana websites.

Mostra Igualada and the Recomana Association for the Promotion of Performing Arts, made up of over 40 critics from across the country, organize the theatre review contest to encourage critical thinking among audiences and promote the practice of this genre. To support participants, they provide basic tips on how to write a review and a template with various analysis fields.

The reviews from Mostra Igualada will also be included in the 3rd Young Cultural Journalists Contest by Recomana, a project encouraging young people in Catalonia to create news articles, reports, interviews, chronicles, reviews, and more. The verdict will be announced in June. The prizes will offer opportunities to attend special show sessions or access press-only areas, further enhancing the experience of being a journalist.
