Following the 36th Mostra Igualada, a press conference was held to announce the shows honored with the Jury and Audience Awards. The jury recognized the artistic quality, innovation, and diversity in this year’s lineup, which featured a rich mix of circus, theatre, and music.

Ákri by Manel Rosés, a solo acrobatic performance that explores humor and absurdity, received the Award for Best Indoor Show; La Pedra de Fusta by the Circ Eia company, an outdoor show investigating balance as a tool for play and trust, was awarded Best Street Show; and Boja by Mariona Esplugues, which reflects humorously on the search for identity and life’s meaning, won Best Youth Show.

To highlight excellence in other disciplines within performing arts, the jury decided to grant three special mentions: La Tempesta by Zero en Conducta for puppetry, Nozing by Ual·la for music, and Pourquoi un arbre est une poule? (Why is a tree a hen?) by MA Compagnie – Marc Lacourt for dance.

The Audience Award was decided through an anonymous vote by attendees of the festival, recognizing Matres by the Catalan company Campi Qui Pugui as the favorite among the 41 shows presented from April 3rd to 6th.

Jury Awards and Mentions
The professional jury for Mostra Igualada 2025 gave highly positive feedback on the range of proposals presented this year. Artistic quality, innovation, diversity, and the ability to connect with family and youth audiences stood out in many of the productions.

Ákri by Manel Rosés, awarded Best Indoor Show, is a circus solo featuring an acrobat and a ladder that explores the concept of “threshold.” The ladder serves both as a circus apparatus and set piece, representing a passage between two spaces while symbolizing a craft and way of life.

La Pedra de Fusta by Circ Eia won Best Street Show with its transgenerational experience that uses balance, trust, and humor to bring people together. The scenes evolve and transform through collective collaboration, offering different perspectives based on freedom (or responsibility) of choice.

Boja by Mariona Esplugues, Best Youth Show winner, offers a personal account of the actress’s experience over 16 years consulting various psychiatrists. The piece reflects humorously on the search for identity and the meaning of life.

Beyond the main awards, the jury gave three special mentions to recognize excellence in specific disciplines:puppetry, music, and dance. The Special Mention for Puppetry was given to La Tempesta by Zero en Conducta, where puppets and words bring to life the journey of Pablito, a boy facing a cloud that prevents him from seeing the sun, dancing, and writing.

Nozing, Special Mention for Music, is Ual·la’s fourth show, and combines two-voice songs, everyday instruments, and lots of humor.

Finally, the jury recognized Pourquoi un arbre est une poule? by MA Compagnie – Marc Lacourt with the Special Mention for Dance, a show that becomes a play space where philosophical questions inspire dancing.

The jury consisted of two groups of seasoned professionals familiar with the family theatre scene: The indoor jury included Òscar Rodríguez (SAT! Sant Andreu Teatre, Barcelona), Estitxu Zaldua (TOPIC Tolosa), María Sánchez de la Cruz (MADferia, Madrid), and Marta Crespi (Fundació L’Atlàntida). The jury for street and youth performances was made up of Joan Chaves (Festival Sense Portes, Argentona), Aïna R. Marès (Festival Z, Girona), Amàlia Atmetlló (Festival Esbaiola’t), and Martí Rossell (Novaveu).

Matres by Campi Qui Pugui, Audience Award Winner
Matres by Campi Qui Pugui was voted the Audience Award winner at the 36th Mostra Igualada. This touching and tender show sensitively explores themes like motherhood, illness, and death. Through the story of Jordi, a boy growing up in a village surrounded by nature and loved by three mothers (his mother, aunt, and grandmother), the play offers an intimate and poetic journey through the stages of life. Featuring four performers on stage, Matres breaks taboos about death with a brave, humorous, and humane perspective, showing how loss can coexist with light and everyday tenderness.

Audience voting took place online among the festival attendees, with measures in place to ensure fair opportunities for all shows regardless of venue size.

The award is supported by Anoia Turisme and the Anoia County Council. Among the participants, a lucky voter was awarded a night’s stay in a double room with breakfast included at the rural accommodation Can Alemany in Santa Margarida de Montbui. The winner was Puri Lara Priego.
