The show Tumbalafusta, by the company La Ruta 40, Xavier Bobés and Pau Matas, has been awarded the 8th Xarxa Alcover Award at Mostra Igualada for its quality, originality, staging, and language.
The jury especially praised the artistic quality, staging, the language used, and above all, the way it celebrates imagination and the beauty of life’s simple things. Tumbalafusta is now part of the Xarxa Alcover catalog and will represent Catalonia in the 2025/2026 tour, which will bring the play to associated theaters throughout the Catalan-speaking territories.
Tumbalafusta is a theatrical production combining text, objects, and music that explores themes such as friendship, imagination, and the passage of time. Wood is the central element in this poetic and visual performance, where two pairs of hands manipulate pieces to build landscapes, stories, games, and questions. This shared journey with the audience invites reflection on the world and the process of growing up. Performers and audience members share a discovery experience where play, words, and images come together with sensitivity and intelligence.
The Xarxa Alcover Award jury—composed of Maite Serrat Callís (former coordinator of the “Anem al teatre” program of the Barcelona Provincial Council), Jordi Roura Palay (programmer at the Ateneu Theater in Cerdanyola del Vallès), and Teresa Garcia Bosch (programmer at Tàrrega City Council)—also wanted to highlight the high artistic quality of the three finalist productions: Matres by Campi Qui Pugui, Somion. La ciutat dels oficis impossibles by the company El que ma queda, and La tempesta by Zero en conducta.
